How to turn your Mailchimp transactional emails to money making marketing emails

Mailchimp will now segment out non-subscribers to your email list from eCommerce stores. This means if your Mailchimp account is integrated using Shopify, Magento, Big Cartel or any of the eCommerce integrations then your email list WILL BE effected.

A non-subscribed contact is someone who has interacted and/or purchased from an online store but has not opted in to receive marketing email campaigns. These contacts are synced from your connected e-commerce store and saved in Mailchimp as transactional emails.

How does this effect your account?

Non-subscribed contacts will count towards your monthly plan limit but will only be able to receive ads, postcards, and transactional emails.

They will NOT be able to receive marketing emails such as promotional emails, regular emails, newsletters, surveys, and event invitations (bummer because that’s where the $$$ is).

so How do we turn those non-subscribers to actual money making subscribers?

Disclaimer: Options listed in this article are not specific to all Mailchimp eCommerce integrations but provide a general overview of options that can be applied in variations to your account. All options listed are in regulation of CAN-SPAM Act & GPDR.

Here we’ve provided three ways to convert your non-subscribers (who only get transactional emails) to a subscribed user who will get ALL of your content.

Option 1

Request they get access to exclusive content, deals, discounts, etc in your abandoned cart emails.

Abandoned cart emails are one of the few transactional emails that non-subscribers receive. So let’s use them to give access to exclusive content they can only get when they subscribe to marketing emails.

Quick How-to:

Step 1: Create a separate abandoned cart email that is just for non-subscribers. You can segment this out manually.

Step 2: When you design your abandoned cart email you’ll want to create a button or hyperlink that allows them to join your mailing list. Make sure to be clear on what they are signing up for.

Step 3: Launch your abandoned cart email and watch as non-subscribers convert to money making subscribers that have access to all your content.

Add a link to sign up for marketing emails in your order notifications.

If you send out order notifications through Mailchimp you can add a note or button to sign up for marketing emails. You can incentivize with a one-time discount, free gift and or valuable content.

Option 3

Add a link to sign up for marketing emails in your product or service feedback emails.

Product or service feedback emails are great for getting quality testimonials and feedback on your products. You can add a link in these emails for non-subscribers to sign up to marketing emails and receive a gift. Show them your appreciation for taking the time to send feedback!

**Please be sure you’re using the Follow up on purchases automation trigger to ensure your non-subscriber will get this email. If you use a regular email and try to segment out non-subscribers it will not work.
